The IT Nerd 2016 Gift Guide

For the third year in a row, I am doing a holiday gift guide. This year, I will focus on gifts that caught my eye from my all over the place. I will also give gift suggestions from the various items that I reviewed this year. So, without further delay, let’s get started.

ROKU: Stream your favourite movies, TV shows, sports and more. With over 2,500 channels and counting, including Netflix, Crackle, YouTube, Cineplex Store, NHL GameCenter and more, Roku’s easy to use players and smart TVs offer something for everyone, making it the perfect gift for the entire family. Check out my reviews of the Roku Express and the Roku Ultra for two examples of what Roku has to offer.

NuGuard KX case for iPhone 7 and 7 Plus: The KX case uses state-of-the-art military-grade XOrbing Gel Technology to absorb and evenly distribute kinetic energy. This revolutionary technology is engineered into a one-piece design that features a hard outer shell integrated with a soft interior core, providing protection and style at a price you’d pay for a regular case. Incredibly thin at ½”, it protects your iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and other iPhones against accidental drops, impacts, and scratches, while still easily fitting in your pocket.

TUDIA Cous Wireless Remote Control Electrical Outlet: an inexpensive way to control all your lights, household appliances, and power strips without the need for expensive IoT (Internet of Things) smartphone devices, TUDIA Cous turns on and off lights and appliances, wirelessly communicating to its outlet plugs from as far as 100 feet — even through closed doors, floors, and walls. Made for use with all hard to reach lights and appliances and essential gear for seniors and the mobility impaired, Cous comes with 5 outlet plugs and 2 remotes (additional outlet plugs and remotes are available). The Cous outlet plug features a compact size that covers only one wall outlet when plugged into the top outlet, freeing up the lower outlet for other uses (unlike competitors that cover 2 outlets at once).

SONOSSonos’ stylish wireless Hi-Fi speakers let you stream all the music on Earth in every room in your home, and control it all with the Sonos app on your smartphone or tablet. We’re not just saying it – Sonos will change how you listen to music. Check out my reviews of the Play:1 and Play:3 as those are great gift ideas.

NewerTech NuGuard Keyboard Cover: This provides protection and style to your laptop without compromising functionality. The NuGuard Keyboard Cover has a smooth surface feel for easy typing while protecting your laptop’s delicate keyboard from wear and tear, food, and dust. The keyboard cover is super easy to install, with the option to change out the color as you’d like. Easy to clean by quickly rinsing with water and drying, the NuGuard Keyboard Cover is available in 12 colors for all MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Retina laptops from 2011 to current.

TUDIA KLIP: This is a 2-piece silicone and polycarbonate clip. The TUDIA Klip quickly snaps onto Apple Lightning and 30-pin charging cables, reducing strain by 80% to protect your essential Apple charging cables from fraying and breaking, which often happens after just 6 months of use. The stylish Klip saves money by controlling the cable from bending at the most vulnerable end points of the cables. The Klip extends the life of expensive Apple cables, ensuring that they will be ready to charge your iPhone, iPad, iPod and Apple Watch when you need it most. Adding little bulk or weight, the Klip comes in 5 colors – blue, green, pink, gray and yellow. You can read a review of the Tudia Klip here

NewerTech Wireless Aluminum Keypad: Designed to complement the look and feel of Apple keyboards, the Wireless Keypad features precision machined aluminum housing, white keys, and a bracket that attaches to the Apple keyboard – no tools needed. The NewerTech Keypad is built to rigorous standards with input from accountants for maximum number crunching workflow.

ZUS: Two products that I will draw your attention to you is the ZUS which is a fast charger and car finding accessory and the ZUS heavy duty cable. Both products are well made and are great stocking stuffers.
