Canadian company TERAGO who provides secure cloud services, data recovery, and business-grade internet solutions to business has apparently been pwned in a cybersecurity incident. A reader tipped me off to this by forwarding a copy of an email that they got just after 6PM EST last night. I’ve reprinted it in full below:
Re: Notice of Security Incident
At TERAGO Networks Inc. (“TERAGO”), we take the security of our systems and protection of information very seriously. For this reason, we are writing to inform you of a security incident at TERAGO that we recently became aware of. Out of an abundance of caution, and to ensure that our customers are fully apprised of the situation, we want to provide you with an update regarding the immediate steps we are taking to address this issue. Please note that this incident has not affected the connectivity services provided to our customers.
What We Are Doing
Immediately upon detecting the incident, TERAGO engaged leading third-party cybersecurity experts to assist with containment and remediation and to conduct a forensic investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. Our top priority has been minimizing any delays that could arise in our operations as a result of this incident and ensuring the security of our customers’ information.
Although our investigation is ongoing, it has come to our attention that certain customer invoices (showing name, address, services rendered, amounts owing or paid, and TERAGO banking information) were impacted by this incident. Your credit card and banking information have not been compromised.
We are not aware of any evidence to suggest that this information has been misused in any way. However, please remain vigilant about any suspicious emails or communications you receive, including those purporting to come from TERAGO.
If you receive any communications from TERAGO regarding changes or updates to banking information or payment processes, please contact us directly to confirm before responding to or acting upon suspicious requests. As a reminder, any changes to TERAGO payment or banking information will be sent by terago.billingenquiries@terago.ca
If you notice anything suspicious, please immediately contact your IT department.
For More Information
This matter is being treated as a top priority, and we are committed to further improving our information security and data storage practices to prevent an incident like this from happening again in the future.
Should you have any questions about this matter, please contact teragoclientsupport@terago.ca
We sincerely appreciate your understanding as we work through this incident.
There’s very little here that tells anyone what happened and more importantly when it happened. But I can tell you who is behind it and what they might have obtained:
If the above is accurate, that’s bad. And TERAGO customers will have some sleepless nights ahead of them. I’ll be keeping an eye on this as from a Canadian perspective, this is huge.
