Shock! Rogers Becomes First North American Carrier To Carry Nokia N95

Who would have thought that Rogers was this good? Just days after getting the iPhone, they score a major coup by scoring the much lusted after Nokia N95 smartphone. From the press release:

“Nokia and Rogers Wireless today announced the launch of the new Nokia N95 8GB, the first device from the Nokia Nseries available in Canada. Winner of several prestigious imaging and sound awards in Europe, the Nokia N95 8GB combines speed, technology and content, redefining what can be done on a mobile device and delivering on the promise of a big multimedia computer in one surprisingly small package.”

Apple fanbois may argue the part about “redefining what can be done on a mobile device and delivering on the promise of a big multimedia computer in one surprisingly small package.” But there’s no question that this is a major coup. It had been widely expected that a US carrier (*cough* AT&T Wireless *cough*) would get the phone first as Canada is low on the totem pole for anything cool in the cell phone industry (just ask the aforementioned Apple fanbois about the iPhone). So the fact that Rogers landed this shocks me. Perhaps it’s “Plan B” if the iPhone thing falls through?

Here a link to what the N95 can do. It should be in Rogers stores on Tuesday.

Now if Rogers would just get the iPhone in stores, lower their rates to reasonable levels and improve their customer service, they’d be perfect.
