Edward Samuel “Ted” Rogers, the founder of Rogers passed away this morning at the age of 75. A press release on the Rogers website makes this comment:
Mr. Rogers, known for his indefatigable drive, built Rogers Communications into a Canadian and North American leader in wireless telecommunications, cable television, broadcasting, publishing and more. Mr. Rogers’ name is synonymous with innovative, high-quality communications products across Canada, products that improved and simplified the everyday lives of Canadians.
As much as I am not a Rogers fanboi, I must admit that the communications landscape in this country is the way it is because of him. The only question is, who will replace him. This Toronto Star story discusses this issue as it is something that will cause unease until it is dealt with.
In the meantime, it is safe to say that Ted will be missed.
