Dell Shuffles The Deck To Better Serve Customers…. Or So They Say

This press release appeared on Dell’s website last night announcing changes in their management structure to “serve business customers with faster innovation and greater responsiveness.” There will be three groups that will have a global focus, large enterprise, public sector, and small and medium businesses. Leading these groups will be:

  • Large Enterprise:  Steve Schuckenbrock who is currently president of Global Services and their CIO.
  • Public Sector: Paul Bell who is currently president of Dell Americas.
  • Small and Medium Business: Steve Felice who is currently president of Dell Asia-Pacific and Japan.

Also connected to this is the announcement of two departures:

  • Michael Cannon who is president of global operations will retire from the company effective Jan. 31 and be replaced by Jeff Clarke who will become vice chairman of global operations and head of Dell’s business client product group.
  • Mark Jarvis who is the chief marketing officer, will leave Dell during this fiscal quarter, and will be replaced by Erin Nelson, formerly vice president of marketing for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Both men will get to cash in continue to act as consultants to Dell.

Why do I get the feeling that they’re simply shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic? Perhaps it’s the fact that Dell’s Q3 net income fell by 28% because of slower PC spending.
