I listened to the Apple quarterly earnings webcast (click here if you want to listen) and this comment got my attention. Acting Apple God CEO Tim Cook was asked about increased competiton in the mobile phone market as well as the Palm Pre. This was his response:
I’m just making a general statement that we think competition is good; it makes it us all better. And we’re ready to suit up and go against anyone. However, we will not stand for having our IP ripped off and we’ll use whatever weapons we have at our disposal. I don’t know that I can be more clear than that.
While he didn’t name the Palm Pre by name, it’s not hard to see where he’s going with this. The Palm Pre uses a multi-touch interface just like the iPhone (not to mention the iPod Touch and the newer MacBooks). If Apple thinks that Palm’s phone offering is too much like the iPhone, the iLawyers will be unleashed upon them. Oh, if you’re Research In Motion with the Blackberry Storm which uses a similar multi-touch interface, you may want to watch your back as well.
But perhaps I’m reading too much into that statement. What do you think? Please leave a comment and let us know your thoughts.

Could The Palm Pre Be The Next Target Of The iLawyers?
