TechCrunch is reporting on rumors Twitter is to be the next company to be bought by Google. According to Michael Arrington who correctly called the Google purchase of YouTube:
Why would Google want Twitter? We’ve been arguing for some time that Twitter’s real value is in search. It holds the keys to the best real time database and search engine on the Internet, and Google doesn’t even have a horse in the game.
Interesting. Google PR droids people via Reuters have sent out the usual “we don’t comment on rumor and speculation” response to requests for comments on this story, and Twitter PR droids people have said nothing so far. But if it is accurate, this is huge.
Anybody want to place bets on this?
UPDATE: Twitter has responded. According to this story, they are not considering a merger or a buyout.
