MacOS X 10.5.7 Issues Surface…. Fanbois Squeal In Agony

If you haven’t yet updated to MacOS X 10.5.7, here’s a few reasons to wait. On top of my “Blue Screen” experience, several other issues have appeared. First VMWare via their blog have noted that the 10.5.7 update can cause system crashes when you use VMWare Fusion on a Mac with an ATI graphic chipset:

We are making this recommendation because the ATI driver in Mac OS X 10.5.7 breaks the 3D acceleration feature in VMware Fusion. You will likely see issues ranging from slow performance, to incorrect rendering, and even crashes, when you run your 3D applications in a Windows virtual machine on Mac OS X 10.5.7.

Apparently a fix is on the way, but no word on how long that will take. Oh, if you don’t need the 3D acceleration features of VMWare Fusion, you can just turn them off and the universe will be just fine.

Next, Macfixit.com have noted a variety of issues including language issues, Bluetooth issues, printing problems, video related issues, and a problem with Buffalo external hard drives. Finally, the Apple discussion boards have a couple threads on monitor resolution issues, and TimeMachine problems.

Normally, I’d offer some advice on how to deal with these issues, but there are so many problems that I’ll simply advise you to follow the links above and search out the solution to your individual problem. Or you could sit this out until the dust settles a bit.
