So now that my wife and I have Home Phone set up, we’ve started test driving some of the options. I managed to to get TV Call Display working by rebooting my cable terminal. So here’s how it works. When someone calls in, you see a pop up at the bottom of the screen with the number. You can then use your Rogers remote control to send the caller to voice mail, clear the pop up, or choose options. A cool feature is that you can get call logs as well as see if you have voice mail on your TV. I must admit that this is very cool and is worth it, as long as you have Rogers as your TV provider and you subscribe to digital cable. We’ve also set up the voice mail system which is called Rogers Home & Away Voice Mail using these instructions that I found on Rogers web page. One cool feature of Rogers Home & Away Voice Mail is that you can check your voicemail online by going to this web page. That’s different, simple, and innovative. Kudos to Rogers for having such a feature.

As for the call quality, as far as we can tell at this point is that the call quality is equal to Bell at the very least. That’s not a bad thing because the first people look for when it comes to home phone service is call quality. If it’s as good as Bell, then it means that you’ve put the time and effort into making the service as good as possible. As we use it, we’ll have better feedback on that front.

The only downside that we can find so far is that we wish a manual had come with the service. That would have made it a bit easier to get things going. But I really can’t complain. We’ll see what other feedback that we have as we use the service over the next month.
