Details are still emerging on this front but according to Fortune, Apple’s iLawyers are about to get a lot more work as the US government is about to “investigate” them for anti-trust violations related to the iAd service and the fact that it shuts out outside advertisers and their ability to collect analytics on ads for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Thus killing off Google’s AdMob which they’re pretty ticked off about. Where does this go from here? Here’s what Fortune said:
But a “plan to investigate” — either at the Federal Trade Commission or the Department of Justice — has lost some of its sting these days. Many of these reported plans have gone nowhere. And even if the government does start a formal investigation — as it did last year after Google announced its plans to buy AdMob — that doesn’t mean the case will ever come to court.
So this could be something, or it could be no big deal. We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, I’m sure that “The Steve” doesn’t like all this attention being directed in his general direction.
