If you’ve got a Tivo, you might want to pay attention to this. This was posted on their website yesterday:
TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVO), the creator of and a leader in advanced television services including digital video recorders (DVRs) announced today that we were informed by Epsilon, a third-party e-mail marketing vendor who TiVo and other companies use to manage email communications, that an unauthorized person outside their company accessed files that included e-mail addresses of some TiVo customers. We were advised by Epsilon that the information that was obtained was limited to first name and/or email addresses only.
Lovely. Now other big names, such as JPMorgan Chase, Citi, US Bank, Kroger, and Walgreens have been affected by this hack. That shouldn’t make anyone feel better though. At least nothing worse than e-maill addresses got out. I would say that these company should take the hint and beef up their security as something worse could have easily have been the result of this hack.
