Your iPhone Or iPad Tracks You…. Deal With It.

News is springing up all over hell’s half acre that owners of the iPhone have to worry about the fact that the phone apparently tracks their every move. Of course the timing kind of sucked seeing as Apple came out with its quarterly report that showed that they made piles of money despite having iPad sales miss estimates, but that’s beside the point. If you dig beyond the hysteria, here’s the facts:

The fact is that I don’t take my privacy lightly. Having said that, I’m not shocked that pretty much everybody wants my location data. It’s valuable after all for advertising purposes. Think about it, ads tailored to your current location would be gold to advertisers. The fact that all these smart phone companies do the same thing should not come as as a great shock to anybody. If I have to criticize Apple for anything, it would have to be over the fact the location data is in an unencrypted file. Bad move Apple. But other than that, the fact is that if you want privacy in 2011, don’t use a smartphone or a tablet. Better yet, don’t use the Internet too. Privacy is a thing of the past. Get used to it.
