Apple CEO Tim Cook dropped a bomb today during an interview airing on NBC’s Rock Center tonight. Apparently a future line of Macs will be produced in the US. That’s a bit of a shock. given how reliant Apple is on making stuff in China. But it seems to be supported by a Bloomberg report that says Foxconn who is Apple’s contract manufacturer is coming to the US:
“We are looking at doing more manufacturing in the U.S. because, in general, customers want more to be done there,” Louis Woo, a Foxconn spokesman, said in a phone interview. He declined to comment on individual clients or specific plans.
I’ll believe it when I see it. But clearly Apple wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t worth their while. The question is why.
Anybody care to guess why Apple is doing this? Post a comment below with your thoughts.
