BlackBerry Gets Order For 1 Million BlackBerry 10 Devices….. Hmmmm

On the surface, this should be big news. BlackBerry announced that they have received an order for one million BlackBerry 10 devicess:

“An order for one million devices is a tremendous vote of confidence in BlackBerry 10,” said Rick Costanzo, EVP Global Sales, BlackBerry. “Consumers are ready for a new user experience, and BlackBerry 10 delivers. With strong partner support, coupled with this truly re-invented new platform, we have a powerful recipe for success.”

Something that got my attention was the fact that they didn’t name the partner who placed the order. You’d think that they’d want to say who bought these devices. And you’d think the partner would want the world to know that they can sell that many devices. Also, when will these devices be fully delivered? This quarter? Next quarter? Next year? While shipments will start immediately, how quick or how slow those shipments happen at is an open question. To me, it’s another one of those pieces of BlackBerry news with a bold statement that has nothing in terms of cold hard facts to back those statements up.

Perhaps that will make sense when they report their numbers in a few weeks. Until then, all I have to say is Hmmmmm…..
