Asus Pulls The Plug On Windows RT

Earlier in July, I wrote that Asus was cutting back on products running Windows RT. Today according to The Wall Street Journal, they are no longer going to make any products with Windows RT. Here’s why:

“It’s not only our opinion, the industry sentiment is also that Windows RT has not been successful,” Asustek Chief Executive Jerry Shen told The Wall Street Journal on the sidelines of its post-earnings conference.

Also of note, the company also took a writedown on Windows RT tablets but didn’t say how much. The focus for ASUS now is on Windows 8 because of backward compatibility.

So, this combined with the news about Acer focusing less on Windows have really highlighted a real problem for Microsoft. One they need to address right now one would think.
