HP’s Commitment To Sustainability Illustrates Why Easy Doesn’t Do It
April 1st is more than April fools day. It’s also the start of Earth Month. And HP is committed to sustainability not just on Earth Month, but also annually every year. The following are some of HP’s sustainability practices that help lend our planet a hand:
First of all, HP is one of Canada’s greenest employers. You can read more about that here. But in short, This special designation recognizes the employers that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness in their organizations. These employers have developed exceptional sustainability initiatives – and are attracting people to their organizations because of their environmental leadership. So it is really interesting to me that HP makes that list. And fun fact: HP is the only PC vendor on this list.
HP has an initiative called Forest First which you can read about here. HP describes the program like this: “This means for every page you print, regardless of paper brand, HP invests in protection, restoration or responsible management of forests by collaborating with credible environmental NGOs that are recognized experts in forest ecosystems.” I find that very cool as this is a very low effort way to help HP to protect forests in various locations around the world as you simply have to have an HP printer to help.
To add to the above, Mary Ann Yule, President, and CEO of HP Canada, discusses how the unique way we integrate circular economy concepts into our own business delivers value to our customers, and to Canadian society in this video.
Finally, this isn’t a recent thing for HP as they have been reporting on sustainability since 2001 so that people can see what impact they are having. You can read their 2019 report here. But here’s one area where HP has had a significant impact. 2.4 million pounds of ocean bound plastics have been used in HP products since 2016. Details can be found here. Or you can watch this video:
The bottom line is that easy doesn’t do it. And HP knows that. Which is why they lead the way on this front, and the rest of us need to follow.
