Apple Sends iLawyers After HTC For Infringing 20 iPhone Patents

If you’re HTC, your day officially sucks. Apple is suing you and “The Steve” is not a very happy camper judging from what he said in this press release:

“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”

Ouch.

All Things Digital has the complete filing and patents that are at issue, and it pretty much every Windows Mobile and Android phone HTC makes. But the interesting thing is that the ones that this legal action are mostly concerned with are the Android phones. I say that because in the case of the Windows Mobile phones, the issue has nothing to do with Windows Mobile but with a DSP chip. That implies to me that HTC is being used as a proxy to kick Google and their Android OS into extinction.

Oh, if any of this sounds familiar it should. This is the same sort of nonsense that Apple and Nokia are currently involved in.

So what happens next? If the Nokia/Apple fight is any indication, pitch a tent and get comfortable. This might take a while. Oh, anyone want to take bets on Google getting involved in this at some point?
