I guess that the report of the US government looking at Apple over antitrust issues is for real. According to The Wall Street Journal, the probe doesn’t just include Apple’s policy of requiring software developers who devise applications for devices such as the iPhone and iPad to use only Apple’s programming tools, it also includes Apple’s new iAd platform:
The FTC has also taken an interest in iAd in the context of the agency’s investigation of Google Inc.’s $750 million purchase of mobile-ad company AdMob Inc. Several developers said they have been contacted by the FTC about the Google-AdMob probe, with two saying they were told that the agency was also looking into the iAd service.
I once again have to point out that there is no guarantee that Apple will have to face any legal action in regards to this, but it can’t be a good sign for God Steve Jobs and his rabid horde of Apple Fanbois. Apple could make some changes to avoid all of this, but I just don’t see that happening as Apple isn’t that sort of company. But they could surprise me.
I guess we’ll see.
