A Further Update In Terms Of Hyundai Owners Wanting Apple CarPlay / Android Auto In Their Cars

It appears that things are heating up down under in terms of owners of Hyundai vehicles in Australia wanting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in their cars. There’s now an online petition that has only been online for about a day or so which already has 29 signatures on it. It’s a safe bet that this will grow as Australian owners of Hyundai products seem to be a very vocal bunch. That’s something that the carmaker might want to take into account.

Meanwhile back in North America, there has been one development in regards to Canadian Hyundai owners wanting to get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in their cars. MnSOFT wich is the infotainment division of Hyundai has a date of November 10 to release version 10.5 of their software as per this screenshot from their webisite:

At this point I have no idea what vehicles will get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. But I am sure it will all become clear on the tenth of November. I am also still waiting for feedback from Hyundai Canada on what their plans are to get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in their cars. One thing that I do have to say is that I continue to get lots of e-mail and the like from Hyundai owners in Canada who want Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in their cars preferably for free as that is what other carmakers are doing. Thus for Hyundai Canada’s sake, I hope that whatever plan that they have is one that fully takes this feeling into account. Related to this, if you’re new to this and want to see what’s got us to where we are now, here’s a quick primer that will get you up to speed.

I will continue to post updates on this story as they become available.

UPDATE 11/10: It’s been delayed as per a comment that a reader left me below. It should be  out next week according to the information that was posted.

  1. Thanks for this new info… Yes, my spouse and I are wiith you and all other Hyundai owners wanting Android Auto in our Hyundai, in our case, the 2015 Genesis. And happy to hear that the version 10.5 of the maps will be available on the 10th of this month. Hope both will be made available free to all owners and all Hyundai vehicles equipped with the relevant hardware. Again thanks. Paul & Blanche from Beresford NB.

    • Please keep in mind that MnSOFT is a different part of the same company. Whatever they are releasing on the 10th is going to be something that you have to PAY for. Whenever Hyundai Canada decides to announce something, it will be a seperate announcement.

  2. It is delayed – sometime this month and as per this post, seems it wlil be added for Sonata and possibly other models

I’ve seen a few 2017 Sonata PHEV and they all have Android Auto and Apple Car Play. One 2017 Sonata PHEV that I’ve seen has a fab date 6 month later than my 2016 Sonata PHEV and has ACP and AA (I don’t). Both 2017 and 2016 are identical cars.

I temporally stopped my emails to Hyundai Canada while waiting to see if the 2017s had this and if 10.5 will make it available to me. I absolutely hate having to pay for that. It feels like they are considering our safety and enjoyment a being less important than our US counterparts.

I know alot of people in the KIA camp that are in the same situation. At least, most of them (including my girlfriend) have been able to get or be reimbursed by Kia Canada (or their dealers) for v10.0 that has Android Auto only.

Only 10.5 will have both AA and ACP. As of today, 10.5 hasn’t been released yet for Hyundai or Kia. Kia seems to be doing the right thing by providing its 2016 customers with a free update but in the case of Hyundai, it is not even available from MapnSoft and somehow I doubt that even if it was available, they would NOT do like Kia and give it away.

Thanks ITnerd for keeping this issue alive.

  4. I’m new to this discussion. Is it only the Hyundai models with navigation that are expected to be upgraded with Apple CarPlay? For example, if I purchased a 2017 Elantra GLS (no nav), would I be unable to get ACP if it was released?

  5. it seems 10.5 is out and i dont see mention of car play for the 2016 genesis
it seems no different than version 10. ca anyone corroborate this
as im confused and very disappointed waiting for nothing

  6. I just purchased the 10.5 update for my Canadian Sonata 2015, and no AA or Carplay

  7. Their usual response is that this is Hyundai’s problem, and I have a feeling the sudden delay caused by them was due to Hyundai/ I did speak to Mapnsoft who said 10.5 would have it but their secretive double talk is confusing and it’s hard to have them reveal much
