Tesoro VC and Parallel Works Partner to Support AI + Semiconductor Accelerator Startups

Posted in Commentary with tags on February 9, 2026 by itnerd

Parallel Works and Tesoro VC today announced a strategic ecosystem partnership that will accelerate innovation at the intersection of AI, semiconductors, and high-performance computing (HPC).

Through the partnership, Tesoro VC connects accelerator startups with advanced compute requirements to Parallel Works, enabling them to access, manage, and scale HPC, GPU, and hybrid cloud resources without infrastructure complexity. Startups gain a consistent, ready-to-use compute framework that supports shared best practices, built-in cost controls, and repeatable workflows, allowing teams to focus on product development rather than platform management.

Tesoro’s Hybrid AI + Semiconductor Accelerator identifies and supports early-stage startups with demanding AI and semiconductor workloads, offering an end-to-end pathway from prototyping and design to funding, scaling, and global market entry.

Companies in the accelerator program gain access to the Parallel Works ACTIVATE platform, enabling teams to integrate complex technology stacks without vendor lock-in while providing a clear path from accelerator environments to enterprise-grade deployments. The collaboration includes technical enablement through training, mentorship, and workshops to help startups effectively access and apply HPC and AI tools to semiconductor design, AI model development, and advanced simulation.

Parallel Works, provider of the ACTIVATE™ control plane for hybrid multi-cloud computing resources, today announced that its collaboration with General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) on a solution to expand a large federal agency’s complex, mission-critical weather forecasting HPC workloads to the cloud has been awarded the Editors’ Choice Award for Best Use of High-Performance Computing (HPC) in the Cloud, as part of the 22nd edition of the HPCwire Readers’ and Editors’ Choice Awards, presented at SC25 in St. Louis, Missouri.

GDIT partnered with Parallel Works and utilized the ACTIVATE platform, to support a large federal agency, and move complex, mission-critical HPC workloads from traditional on-premises systems. The project maintained the reliability and performance standards essential for life-saving weather forecasting, demonstrating that even the most demanding mission-critical HPC operations can successfully transition from traditional HPC systems to cloud infrastructure.

The coveted annual HPCwire Readers’ Choice Awards are determined through a nomination and voting process with the global HPCwire community, as well as selections from the HPCwire editors. The awards are an annual feature of the publication and constitute prestigious recognition from the HPC community. They are revealed each year to kick off the annual supercomputing conference, which showcases high-performance computing, networking, storage, and data analysis. Winners were revealed at the SC25 HPCwire booth, as well as on the HPCwire website.

2026 Predictions From Parallel Works

Posted in Commentary with tags on November 12, 2025 by itnerd

Matthew Shaxted, CEO and Founder of Parallel Works, shares his perspectives on how the next phase of enterprise AI will be defined by the rise of private infrastructure, specialized cloud providers, and a growing emphasis on data sovereignty and hybrid architectures.

The Rise of Private AI: Enterprises will increasingly move away from fully relying on public hyperscalers and toward private or semi-private AI infrastructure. Neo cloud providers will take center stage as hedge funds, defense contractors, and other data-sensitive organizations will begin leveraging them for GPU access and to manage Kubernetes environments. This will then allow them to transition to owning their own AI systems. This shift reflects a growing desire for control, cost predictability and sovereignty in how AI workloads are trained and deployed.

Neo Cloud Providers Challenge Hyperscaler Dominance: Specialized GPU-focused cloud providers — often delivering services 4x less than Amazon, Google, or Microsoft’s cost — will carve out a meaningful share of AI workloads. Their pricing models, flexibility, and regional presence will give mid-sized enterprises and research institutions a more viable entry point into advanced AI and HPC workloads. This new tier of “neo clouds” will increasingly become a bridge between expensive public cloud offerings and private infrastructure ownership.

Sovereign AI and Policy-Aware Scheduling: As data sovereignty concerns escalate, organizations will prioritize the ability to keep sensitive data and AI workloads within defined regions or facilities. Intelligent scheduling and policy-driven orchestration will become more prevalent and essential capabilities, ensuring compliance while still enabling performance and efficiency. Sovereign AI will reshape infrastructure strategies in defense, healthcare, and financial services, where regulatory guardrails are non-negotiable.

Hybrid Multi-Cloud as the Default Model: By 2026, hybrid and multi-cloud architectures will be the standard for HPC and AI, replacing the one-size-fits-all approach of monolithic on-prem systems. Workloads will dynamically move across on-prem, cloud, and specialized resources (GPUs, quantum, etc.) to balance performance, cost, and compliance. Cloud bursting and heterogeneous workload placement will no longer be differentiators — they will be table steaks for competitiveness in AI-driven industries.

DoD Greenlights Parallel Works Hybrid Multi-Cloud HPC Platform with ATO Approval, Now Ready for Defense and Industry Use

Posted in Commentary with tags on September 15, 2025 by itnerd

Parallel Works today announced its ACTIVATE High Security Platform (HSP) has achieved a historic milestone as the first-ever hybrid multi-cloud computing solution to receive the Authority to Operate (ATO) by the Department of Defense (DoD). Granted by the High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP), the IL-5 ATO authorization enables more agile, cloud-enabled defense computing capabilities to modernize defense infrastructure through scalable, secure and high-performance cloud solutions.

The designation opens the door for partners, integrators, DoD civilians and military end users to utilize Parallel Works ATO through two options:

  1. ACTIVATE HSP can be used as a shared service on NIPRnet through HPCMP.
  2. Organizations can leverage the ACTIVATE HSP software stack and inherit the required compliance and security boundaries to operate within the government ecosystem.

The ATO authorization provides immediate access to a secure, IL5-authorized HPC platform, thereby shortening the time to market for DoD agencies, defense contractors, national labs, system integrators and AI/ML teams.

The DoD’s demand for automated computing solutions is skyrocketing as technology advances to support AI-driven wargaming, digital and model-based systems. Parallel Works ACTIVATE HSP advances the transition with turnkey HPC integration across DoD and commercial clouds, providing advanced orchestration for real-time simulation and AI analytics.

The Parallel Works hybrid, multi-cloud computing HSP is one of only three software programs approved to handle export-controlled workload environments, including International Traffic in Arms (ITAR), DoD IL5 and the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP).
