This is a category that I had a difficult time picking a winner from. I went back and forth between everything that I reviewed this year before I settled on the RHA MA450 Headsets For The iPhone/iPod/iPad. Simply put, they bring amazing sound and quality construction to the table without costing you a pile of money to get it. Now, most of you will never have heard of RHA, but if they put out products like these, they’ll be on the map soon enough. Which in turn will make a certain rap icon who makes headsets look over his shoulder. The RHA MA450 headsets are a very deserving winner of The IT Nerd Best Accessory Award for 2015, and should be your choice if you want to listen to your music on the go.

Review: RHA MA450 Headsets For The iPhone/iPod/iPad

I lost my Sennheiser headsets on my recent trip to India and Australia. Thus I needed a replacement. What I settled on was the RHA MA450 headsets. Now I’ll deal with the elephant in the room. Most of you have never heard of RHA. That’s okay. They’re a company based out of the U.K. who makes really good sounding headsets. The thing is, that unlike headsets made by a certain rap icon who now works for Apple, they don’t cost an arm and a leg.

There’s a lot that’s unique about the MA450 headsets. Here’s a quick list:

  • Noise isolating design which is handy if you want to tune out the world.
  • Machined from aircraft grade aluminum which gives it an air of quality.
  • Selection of dual density and double flange silicone ear tips which allow you to customize the fit.
  • 1.5m, fabric braided, Y-cable with 90° gold plated connection. The latter provides better signal quality.
  • 3-button remote and microphone which works with your iPhone and some other Apple devices.
  • A carrying case comes with it along with a clip to clip these to your shirt or jacket.

Now all of that looks good on paper, but how do these headsets sound?

In a word: amazing.

The sound that the MA450’s generates is detailed, full bodied and crystal clear. Plus the bass is deep without being overwhelming. I threw everything form Richard Wagner to New Order to Jaffa Road at these headsets and I walked away impressed as hell. When it comes to noise isolation, it actually delivers for the most part without battery operated gizmos to do it. The microphone that is built into these headsets worked without complaints with the people I did some test calls with and the controls that come with it to end calls and control the volume worked with not only my iPhone, but with my MacBook Pro which supports this type of headset. Thus you can use these for Skype sessions on your iPad or MacBook.

Here’s the biggest reason to get these headsets. The price. I paid $59.59 for them at the Apple Store. That’s way less than anything from that brand by that rapper that now works for Apple and they sound incredible. And to top it off, you get a 3-year parts and labour warranty. Nice! Quite simply, the RHA MA450 headsets are the early contender for the IT Nerd Accessory of the year because quite simply, they are the best headsets that I have tried – EVER. You will not be disappointed if you buy them.
