Canadian based Sheridan College recently purchased Buffalo Computer Graphics’ (BCG) DisasterLAN (DLAN) Emergency Manager Edition with GIS to help train students in Incident Management. As the Emergency Management System currently utilized by the Regional Municipality of Halton, Ontario and the City of Toronto, DLAN will help facilitate student learning by providing the same tool used by emergency management professionals in Sheridan’s region.
Using the system, students will get hands on experience with the tools emergency mangers use during day-to-day operations and emergencies. They will learn how emergency managers utilize the technology to better prepare for, respond to, and report on incidents and events.
Sheridan College received educational pricing for the technology as part of BCG’s efforts to make it affordable for educational institutes to get access to real world tools. BCG’s Toronto based technology partner, FutureShield, assisted Sheridan in ensuring a smooth implementation and configuration process.
