Take Control Of Your Gaming With Watch Dogs: Legion

Posted in Commentary with tags on September 30, 2020 by itnerd

Some of our favourite video games are continuously sculpted by the decisions we make as players, and the choices we make throughout our video game journey. From character customization, to the NPC’s we choose to interact with, to the activities we choose to partake in. But at the end of the day, they’re often linear and our choices for customization are limited.

Watch Dogs: Legion tosses aside the expected when it comes to video game culture and puts you in control of your gaming experience. You have the ultimate freedom to do as you please and play whomever you please. There are no NPC’s and you can play as anyone you see in the futuristic dystopian streets of London.

Play as anyone, from the sweet (or not so sweet) granny on the street to the punk vigilante hacker. The choice is yours, and there are plenty more choices where that came from.

Watch Dogs: Legion is available for pre-order right now, and is launching on PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4 (New-Gen compatible) and Stadia on October 29th 2020.

UBISOFT Announces The First World Cup For Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege

Posted in Commentary with tags on September 11, 2020 by itnerd

Yesterday at Ubisoft’s digital press conference, Ubisoft Forward, the company announced the first ever Rainbow Six World Cup, an exciting new way to enjoy esports on Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Siege. The Rainbow Six World Cup will take place in the Summer of 2021. For the first time in Rainbow Six Esports history, players from 45 countries and regions will compete at the highest level to become the one team that will make history by bringing home the very first Rainbow Six World Cup trophy. The World Cup is also a unique and unprecedented opportunity for fans to share their love, pride and unconditional support with the team that will represent them on the worldwide stage.

For such a special occasion, Ubisoft has entrusted international athlete Tony Parker to take on the role of ambassador for the Rainbow Six World Cup and share his 20-years of experience with the players involved in the competition. With 4 NBA titles, a EuroBasket title, more than 180 selections in national team and a true passion for esports and gaming, Tony Parker will have great insights to share with players who will face, for the first time, the special pressure and stakes that come with competing in world cups.

From September 2020 to Summer 2021: the road to the Rainbow Six World Cup

From amateur competitive scenes which started only 5 years ago, Rainbow Six Siege has developed into Ubisoft’s top-tier esports title, with more than 60 million players worldwide, and 40 professional teams competing in four strong regional leagues across North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. The Rainbow Six World Cup is the latest addition to the Rainbow Six Esports ecosystem, as an independent layer of competition and the first ever country-based tournament for the game.

The Rainbow Six World Cup will involve a total of 45 countries and regions throughout two stages. The Qualifier Stage will happen during the first half of 2021, while the Final Stage will take place during the summer of 2021. Fourteen countries and regions will get a direct invite to the Final Stage and, 31 other countries will take part in online qualifiers to compete for one of the six remaining available slots. Ultimately, 20 teams will be competing in the Final Stage of the World Cup.

To determine the composition of each national team, local Rainbow Six Siege communities and professional scenes will participate in a two-step process:

  • Starting September 14, each of the 45 participating countries and regions will start selecting their National Committees, composed of three team managers.
  • Later this fall, each National Committee will select the five players who will compete in the team.

The National Committees will ultimately head the team they carefully composed as they take on the challenge to become World Cup champions.

Additional details on the competition and the national committee selection process are available here: https://rainbow6.com/R6WorldCup

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Encourages Canadians To Recognize Viking History

Posted in Commentary with tags on August 19, 2020 by itnerd

Did you know Vikings are part of Canadian history? Specifically, Leif Erikson? In celebration of the upcoming release of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, we’re encouraging Canadians to dig deep on Viking history and learn more about Leif Erikson Day.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla allows players to explore ninth-century England as a Viking; just as Leif Erikson did on land now known as Canada.

To help celebrate Canada’s Viking history, we need your help. Sign our petition and share it with your friends and family!

Every signature helps ensure that Leif Erikson and his crew are given the credit they deserve in Canada, taking us a step closer to having October 9th recognized as a national holiday from coast to coast in celebration of Canada’s early discovery.

Will you joining the Vikings in ensuring that they are recognized in our country’s history?

Ubisoft Unveiles A New Collegiate Esports League In Partnership With Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege

Posted in Commentary with tags on July 16, 2020 by itnerd

Today, Ubisoft announced Ubisoft Collegiate Esports, their first ever proprietary collegiate esports league, premiering with Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Siege, that will kick off in July 2020. The new league will launch in partnership with FACEIT, the world’s leading platform for competitive online gaming, who will operate the program as part of the new North American ecosystem. CORSAIR will serve as the premiere sponsor of the league. Additional sponsors include Origin PC, a subsidiary of CORSAIR.

The program will feature a user-friendly online platform allowing registered school clubs (no online schools) to register themselves and begin competing in a variety of local and cross-continent programs.

Clubs must consist of registered, full-time students and will be able to:

  • Host intramural matches
  • Host viewing parties and live events
  • Manage club members and their teams
  • Manage matches and results
  • Request prizing

In addition to the online platform, schools will be eligible to nominate one team (per school) to participate in the Rainbow Six Collegiate championship – our premier league for Rainbow Six. All contending schools will face off for a chance to earn a $30K prize pool and additional hardware prizes, including a cutting-edge Origin PC and CORSAIR peripherals. The pre-season will begin in October 2020, while the full season will begin in January 2021.

Ubisoft is taking exceptional pride in being able to offer unique esports programs to players of all skill levels. The collegiate program is our chance to get involved with the college community and build a program that focuses on professionalism, fair play, and community growth.
