Targus MiraLogic Connect wins CES 2025 Innovation Award in sustainability

Posted in Commentary with tags on November 15, 2024 by itnerd

Targus today announced that its MiraLogic Connect retrofit adapter has been named a CES 2025 Innovation Award Honoree in the Sustainability, Eco-Design & Smart Energy category. CES’ elite panel of judges recognized MiraLogic Connect for its unique features and benefits that help organizations advance their sustainability initiatives by upgrading mainstream Targus docking stations to IoT-connected smart docks configured for MiraLogic. MiraLogic is a patented, unique workspace intelligence system that enables IT and management teams to remotely control, oversee, and optimize their company’s modular IT ecosystems, anywhere.

With the MiraLogic Connect adapter, organizations can seamlessly and cost-effectively upgrade their mainstream Targus docking stations to IoT-connected smart docks configured for MiraLogic. This allows their IT and management teams to efficiently analyze, control, and manage their workspace assets anywhere (e.g., power consumption, workspace utilization, and real-time occupancy). By providing valuable, real-time insights to make data-driven decisions about running costs of power, energy, equipment, and desk usage, MiraLogic helps today’s businesses achieve their sustainability goals more effectively while empowering employees to work productively from anywhere.

MiraLogic Connect is a retrofit adapter that sits between a Targus docking station, specifically DOCK182DOCK192DOCK310, and DOCK315, and host device to incorporate the capabilities of the Targus MiraLogic Workspace Intelligence System into the dock. With this small adapter, Over-the-Air (OTA) Firmware updates and management tasks can also now be performed remotely and automatically through the MiraLogic platform, without attaching to a host device. This eliminates the need to perform time-intensive, manual updates on multiple docks throughout the workplace. Remote OTA firmware updates enable organizations to cut time spent on dock maintenance by more than 90%, according to data from Targus enterprise users.

Extending MiraLogic’s sustainability benefits, the adapter and product packaging also use recycled materials. The housing has 75% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic and the product comes in a recyclable brown box packaging and CPE-07 biodegradable bag which degrades faster than regular plastic once discarded. In the company’s future docking solutions roadmap, Targus is working toward replacing all of its current docking products with 85% Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) housing and 100% recycled packaging.

The MiraLogic Workspace Intelligence System, which was named a CES Innovation Award Honoree in 2019 and 2024, combines patented and patent-pending enterprise-grade hardware and proprietary cloud software to give technical and management teams full remote control and visibility over their modular IT ecosystems across the workplace. By providing real-time insights to make data-driven decisions about running costs of power, energy, equipment, and desk usage, organizations can achieve their sustainability goals more effectively while empowering employees to work productively from anywhere.

MiraLogic Connect is slated for availability in April 2025. Consumers and media can get a firsthand look and technical demonstration of MiraLogic Connect and the MiraLogic Workspace Intelligence System at CES 2025, the world’s most important proving ground for innovation happening in Las Vegas, Jan. 7th-10th. Targus will be showcasing its latest innovations in docking stations, cases, and tech accessories designed to upgrade peoples’ lives at The Venetian in Suite #35-106. Additionally, MiraLogic Connect will be featured in the CES Innovation Awards Showcase and with the MiraLogic Workspace Intelligence System during CES Unveiled, CES’ premier media preview event taking place at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center on the evening of January 5th.

Targus UV-C LED Disinfection Light Automatically Disinfects High-Touch Surfaces To Create A Cleaner Workspace

Posted in Commentary with tags on June 30, 2023 by itnerd

Targus, the number one laptop case brand in the US and Canada and a leader in laptop cases and mobile computing accessories, today announced that its CES 2021 Innovation Awards Honoree2, the UV-C LED Disinfection Light, is now available for sale. This essential no-touch solution helps reduce pathogens on device surfaces by utilizing UV-C Light technology, which breaks down the DNA of microorganisms.

Sleek, modern, and lightweight, the Disinfection Light is designed to stand between your keyboard and monitor on the desktop to automatically disinfect the surfaces of keyboards, mice, and other items within the disinfection range3, reducing the need for manual intervention, cleaning, or touching.

The UV-C LED Disinfection Light effectively kills or inactivates pathogenic microorganisms. Third-party laboratory testing verified efficacy against Flu Virus (H1N1 Influenza), Staph (Staphylococcus aureus) Bacteria, Pneumonia (Klebsiella pneumoniae) Bacteria, and MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) Bacteria. The Targus UV-C LED Disinfection Light runs for 5 minutes, every hour, to clean the active disinfection area. When the disinfection cycle begins, the light emits a purple ambient hue, indicating that it is in use.

AC-powered, the disinfecting occurs automatically, so there is no manual cleaning schedule to maintain. Manual cleaning, however, can be initiated with the press of a button, allowing 15 seconds for the individual to leave the active area. There is a built-in auto shut-off safety feature that utilizes motion sensors. Should any motion be detected within the safety zone4, outside of the active cleaning area, or if the device senses any activity within the safety zone, the UV-C LEDs will be automatically disabled. After 5 minutes of inactivity, the Light will resume its disinfection cycle.

The UV-C LED Disinfection Light (AWV339TT) can be purchased in the US on Targus.com and through authorized resellers.

Targus Earns Bronze EcoVadis Rating

Targus, the number one laptop case brand in the U.S. and Canada and a leader in laptop cases and mobile computing accessories, announced that it has earned a bronze sustainability rating from EcoVadis, the world’s most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings.

The EcoVadis methodology assesses companies’ policies, measures, and published reporting in the areas of environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. A bronze rating indicates that Targus ranks among the top 50 percent of performers worldwide across these key areas.

In addition, Targus participated in a global Treekly challenge to turn their footsteps into forests. The Targus team collectively walked a total of three million steps in both the months of September and January, roughly 1,500 miles! The “Targus Forest” is estimated to capture approximately 625 tons of CO2 by 2030 and 3,858 tons by 2050. Targus Releases New Global Study To Find Out How People can Empower Their Lives Inside And Outside Of Work

Posted in Commentary with tags on February 16, 2023 by itnerd

Targus has released the results of its annual 2023 Global Workplace Study, which examines the key factors, tools, and trends that are important for improving employee wellbeing, engagement, and productivity.

According to the survey among 1,000 senior business decision makers and 6,000 workers across North America and Europe, the top three wellbeing priorities are: flexible working (47 percent), rewards and recognition (43 percent), and cost of living support (40 percent). In fact, 88 percent of business decision makers globally agree that flexible working positively impacts their staff retention and recruitment, an 11-point increase from 2021.

Here are some of the study’s key findings:

  • Flexible and hybrid working remains the norm, with 58 percent of respondents in the U.S. stating that they do not work from an office full time and 51 percent stating that they only work in an office between two and four days per week.
  • Having the right tools to work from anywhere is extremely important. Specifically, 80 percent of U.S. workers and 82 percent globally believe their job satisfaction and productivity would be negatively impacted without the right tech accessories to do their work. However, many businesses supporting flexible working conditions do not supply their employees with the tech accessories they need to work well remotely, such as a keyboard, mouse, headphones, additional monitor(s), and hub. An annual budget to purchase accessories ranked in the top five ways to enhance wellbeing at work.
  • Businesses and consumers increasingly prioritize sustainability, with more than 53 percent of global respondents stating that sustainable attributes influence their purchasing considerations for tech accessories. In the U.S., alone, 62 percent of people say they are happy to pay more for sustainable products that last longer, and 72 percent say they buy less fast fashion products and invest in long-lasting products.
