It’s been a bad few days for a variety of companies such as Bell Canada who’s Internet offering wend down twice in a week, and Garmin who had an outage yesterday. Now it’s Reddit’s turn:

As usual, there’s been nothing from the company on this acknowledging the outage or when things will be back online. So I guess Reddit users will just have to wait this one out.

UPDATE: It seems that whatever happened was brief and things are back online again.

Sensitive medical data of millions of US patients has been leaked online

Posted in Commentary with tags on June 3, 2025 by itnerd

Cybernews researchers have uncovered a major data breach involving the US-based dental marketing firm Gargle with a company leaking around 2.7 million patient profiles and 8.8 million appointment records online.

Key findings:

  • The leak was caused by an unsecured MongoDB database. The data owner hasn’t been officially confirmed, but clues buried in the database point toward Gargle.
  • The leak likely stemmed from a common and often overlooked vulnerability where databases are left exposed without proper authentication due to human error.
  • Clues point to dental marketing company Gargle as the source, raising serious questions about third-party data handling and HIPAA compliance.

What data was leaked?

  • Names
  • Dates of birth
  • Emails
  • Addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Gender
  • Chart IDs
  • Language preferences
  • Billing details
  • Appointment records with patient metadata, timestamps, and institutional references

What are the potential dangers of this leak?

The leaked database includes highly sensitive patient details. When combined, this information creates a full blueprint of a person’s identity — opening the door to insurance fraud, medical identity theft, and highly targeted phishing and social engineering attacks.

Specops Secure Service Desk Now Supports Entra ID, On-Prem and Hybrid Customers

Posted in Commentary with tags on June 3, 2025 by itnerd

Specops Software, an Outpost24 company and leading provider of password and identity management solutions, has announced that its Specops Secure Service Desk for Cloud now supports native Entra ID, including on-premises and hybrid, enabling cloud-based organizations to verify the identity of callers to the service desk using stronger authentication methods that minimize the risk for user impersonation. Currently Microsoft does not offer built-in identity verification for users contacting the service desk. Specops Secure Service Desk solves this problem by verifying users when they contact the service desk, now including cloud-only environments.

In recent months, many high-profile organizations, including British retailer Marks and Spencers (M&S), have been targeted in sophisticated social engineering attacks that specifically target service desk agents. The “Scattered Spider” threat group, thought to be behind the attack on M&S, as well as the 2023 MGM Resorts hack, has repeatedly demonstrated that the service desk is a prime social engineering target that can cause a lot of disruption for organizations. The M&S attack, for example, is thought to have led to an estimated $402 million profit hit for the retailer, with some customer data stolen. As a result, the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre has specifically urged organizations to review and harden their help-desk password reset workflows to stop similar manipulations before they can escalate into full-blown ransomware or extortion events, with other government cyber organizations globally likely to follow suit.

Verifying the identity of callers to the service desk is just as critical for cloud-only customers as it is for on-prem organizations. An organization’s service desk agents need reliable tools to verify the ID of callers, for the following reasons:

  • Remote and hybrid working drives increased call volumes: If users are still calling the service desk with problems, service desk agents are at risk of social engineering.
  • Digital transformation adoption outpaces user training: Fighting against sophisticated and quickly evolving social engineering tactics is a complex task if service desk agents are not supported with the right tools.
  • Service desks are an easier avenue of attack than passwords: Threat actors know it’s easier to attack the service desk than crack strong passwords or bypass MFA – this attack route won’t disappear.
  • Evolving tactics aided by artificial intelligence (AI): Deepfakes and social media reconnaissance can render traditional verification methods ineffective.

About Specops Secure Service Desk

Specops Secure Service Desk enables customers to increase their service desk security with stronger authentication methods that minimize the risk for user impersonation. Identity verification options range from mobile or email verification codes, to commercial authentication providers such as Duo Security, Okta, Symantec VIP, PingID and YubiKey. These authentication options are paired with technical enforcement of the ID verification, blocking agents from proceeding with the caller’s request until authentication through the platform is completed. Secure Service Desk also integrates with a multitude of ID services and other service desk systems, such as ServiceNow and Jira.

Specops Secure Service Desk is available to Entra ID only organizations (or those planning to move there soon), as well as on-prem and hybrid organizations, today. For more information, visit: https://specopssoft.com/blog/secure-service-desk-for-cloud

SOCRadar Strengthens MSSP Program with Free AI Agent & Automation Training

Posted in Commentary with tags on June 3, 2025 by itnerd

SOCRadar, a global leader in extended threat intelligence and cybersecurity, announced an expansion of its MSSP program to help partners scale operations, automate threat workflows, and improve service delivery. As part of its program, SOCRadar is now offering free AI Agent and Automation Training to educate partners about AI agents and GenAI technologies to help streamline their SOC, threat intelligence and vulnerability management processes. Platform-agnostic, the training equips MSSP partners with hands-on skills to build their own AI-powered workflows regardless of the tools they currently use.

Additional program enhancements include multi-tenant licensing, MSSP-specific threat intelligence use cases, a Multi-Tenant Management Console, and customizable External Threat Assessment Reports. The expanded program was officially launched at Infosecurity Europe.

SOCRadar’s AI agents are intelligent automation components embedded in its Extended Threat Intelligence (XTI) platform. These agents use Large Language Models (LLMs) and automation scripts to perform complex, multi-step cybersecurity workflows. Unlike traditional scripts or static rules, SOCRadar’s AI agents can dynamically analyze data, make contextual decisions, and execute actions across multiple systems—reducing analyst workload while increasing speed and accuracy. MSSPs can create “smart workflows” by defining goals and guardrails for each agent. The agents then use planning, reasoning, and learning techniques to carry out tasks such as threat detection, enrichment, alert correlation, or vulnerability prioritization.

Key Benefits of SOCRadar’s Framework for MSSPs include:

  • Automate threat intelligence, SOC, and vulnerability management tasks
  • Reduce analyst workload while accelerating detection and response
  • Improve decision accuracy and reduce false positives
  • Enable continuous monitoring across clients without growing headcount
  • Increase scalability and profitability while maintaining service quality

Chronicle targets $20m for hyped presentations AI Agent

Posted in Commentary with tags on June 3, 2025 by itnerd

Presentations without PowerPoint: Chronicle’s AI agent for presentations emerges from stealth with 100,000 waitlisted users and a mission to revolutionize how ideas are visualized and shared. Referred by many of its users as ‘Cursor for Presentations’, Chronicle’s bold mission is to reinvent storytelling by having AI and world-class design co-create your next presentation. In a world where both traditional slide decks and first-generation AI presentation tools have disappointed with boring, powerless, and tasteless outputs, Chronicle promises a new reality where quality is the focus. Chronicle helps you craft stunning, impactful presentations in minutes, not hours.

AI-Powered Storytelling Meets Refined Taste

Chronicle is more than just slides. It’s an intelligent agent that collaborates with you on messaging, design execution, and narrative flow. Unlike traditional tools that merely put out generic AI generated content, Chronicle is like a brainstorming partner and master designer working on your narrative and visuals. Think Steve Jobs designing your presentation for you.

Chronicle handles the heavy lifting of conducting deep research, distilling key insights, and ensuring every element strengthens your narrative. This empowers anyone to create presentations with the depth and polish that typically requires years of expertise.

Chronicle’s design philosophy flips the traditional presentation paradigm. By understanding what’s needed to make your story visually compelling, it considers elements such as typography, spacing, visual hierarchy, and motion, all working seamlessly in the background.

The result is a presentation that feels hand-crafted by a professional designer and storyteller. Chronicle aims to deliver on the decades-old promise of accessible, elevated storytelling by combining the speed of AI with a profound understanding of what makes presentations truly compelling.

Chronicle gives you tools to guide focus – for the first time ever

Many tools are just about how your slides look, but truly extraordinary presentations hinge on your ability to direct audience attention, especially in a world of depleted attention spans.

Chronicle considers this as part of its mission and brings a new level of interactivity and engagement by giving presenters superpowers like Peek and Deep Hover. These experiences allow users to manipulate focus like a pro: zoom in, highlight, isolate, or focus, ensuring that viewers stay engaged with exactly what matters most.

Founders with a Vision (and Frustration)

Chronicle was founded by two self-proclaimed “presentation nerds,” Mayuresh Patole and Tejas Gawande. Their journey began at IIT Bombay, where Mayuresh earned recognition for transforming standard PowerPoint into something unrecognizable. His classmates often approached after presentations to ask which specialized software he was using, not realizing it was PowerPoint beneath his creative hacks.

Meanwhile, Tejas used his background in growth and social media to identify the shifting landscape of information consumption.

Together, they set out to create a platform aimed at eliminating the PowerPoint pain they experienced firsthand. Following a USD 7.5 million seed round led by Accel and Square Peg in 2023, Chronicle has continued to refine its product with input from a select group of beta users. Many have swapped their existing presentation tools for Chronicle for critical meetings and speaking opportunities. The consensus: Chronicle makes presentations beautiful and enjoyable, words seldom associated with PowerPoint.

Try Chronicle – Your Next Presentation Will Never Be the Same

Today, Chronicle enters public beta and is open for anyone to try. Chronicle welcomes everyone, from design novices to seasoned professionals, from startup founders to corporate executives, all united by the need to communicate powerfully without wrestling with complex software or hiring expensive design teams.

Chronicle’s free beta is available today at chroniclehq.comSimply sign up and try it for your next big presentation. Chronicle will handle the rest.

Over the course of their journey, the founders have attracted some of the most prominent thought leaders mapping out the future of work from organizations such as Apple, Google, Slack, Stripe, Superhuman, OnDeck, and Adobe. Chronicle is a fully remote team of 10, operating across the US, India, and Australia.
