Posted in Commentary with tags on June 13, 2025 by itnerd

This week at InfoComm 2025, HP Inc. unveiled HP Dimension with Google Beam (formerly Project Starline), an AI-powered, true-to-life 3D video communications solution designed to take virtual collaboration to the next level. HP Dimension with Google Beam delivers a deeply immersive experience that replicates the feeling of being in-person, with no headsets, glasses, or wearables required.

Developed in partnership with Google, HP Dimension with Google Beam is designed to transform the future of workplace communications by combining breakthrough 3D imaging, natural eye contact, spatial audio, and adaptive lighting into an elegant solution for small meeting spaces.

Taking Virtual Collaboration to the Next Dimension

As organizations with distributed workforces embrace the new world of work, a critical gap has emerged between virtual and in-person communication. While video conferencing tools have enabled teams to stay in touch across time zones, they often fall short in replicating the in-person experience.

Today, 73% of knowledge workers say they want to feel more connected to their coworkers.

HP Dimension with Google Beam is designed to establish deeper, more meaningful connections. It uses six cameras and state of the art AI to create a true-to-life 3D video of each participant, displayed on a special light field display with realistic size, depth, color, and eye contact. Testing, has shown a measurable impact compared to traditional video calls, with participants who used the solution for meetings reporting:

  • A 28% increase in memory recall
  • Up to 39% more non-verbal behaviors displayed
  • At least 14% increase in focus on the meeting partner

These findings translate to faster alignment, more meaningful exchanges, and better business outcomes based on the authenticity of each interaction. HP Dimension with Google Beam brings depth, clarity, empathy, and subtlety to virtual meetings to help redefine collaboration and bring people together, no matter how far apart they are.

HP Dimension with Google Beam will provide a native Zoom Rooms or Google Meet experience and support three functions: 3D immersive one-on-one communications, 2D traditional group meetings, and meeting interoperability with cloud-based video services such as Teams and Webex.

HP Dimension with Google Beam is Designed for the Future of Work

HP Dimension with Google Beam represents the culmination of HP’s ongoing investment in innovation to create a culture with more immersive and authentic collaboration experiences designed for the Future of Work. HP and Google are taking this technology into the enterprise, to deliver deeper, more authentic human connection and communication.

Medical software maker Episource data breach leaks thousands of patients’ private health info

Posted in Commentary with tags on June 13, 2025 by itnerd

Medical software company Episource this week began notifying victims of a January 2025 data breach that compromised medical records and health insurance info. Sharp Healthcare, an Episource client in California, is also notifying patients of the breach. Episource has not disclosed how many victims it notified nationwide, but the Texas Attorney General reports 24,259 people were notified of the breach in that state alone.

In a blog post reporting this news, Paul Bischoff, Consumer Privacy Advocate at Comparitech, wrote:

“In 2025 to date, Comparitech has logged three confirmed ransomware attacks on US healthcare-related businesses that do not provide direct care to patients. Attacks on these companies can have far-reaching consequences for hospitals, clinics, and other direct care providers that use them. Last year, 29 such attacks compromised nearly 193 million records. Ransomware gangs in 2025 so far have made another 24 unconfirmed attack claims against healthcare-related companies that haven’t been publicly acknowledged by the targeted companies.”

“As for direct care providers like hospitals and clinics, Comparitech researchers have logged 27 confirmed ransomware attacks in 2025 so far, compromising more than 1.9 million records. Ransomware attacks on healthcare providers can cripple critical systems and endanger the health, privacy, and security of patients. Targeted companies must pay a ransom or face extended downtime, data loss, and putting patients and staff at increased risk of fraud. Hospitals and clinics might have to resort to pen and paper, cancel appointments, and divert patients elsewhere until systems are restored.”

Yet again I am reporting on another health care breach. That’s continues not to be a good thing as it underscores how vulnerable this space is. Changing this in a different direction has to be a priority.

Introducing Surfshark Everlink: patented self-healing VPN infrastructure for stable VPN protection

Posted in Commentary with tags on June 13, 2025 by itnerd

Surfshark unveils Surfshark Everlink, an industry-first patented (patents: US11190491B1US20240080302A1) technology designed to deliver greater VPN connection stability. Surfshark Everlink is a supporting, self-healing infrastructure that ensures continuous VPN connectivity by seamlessly recovering dropped VPN connections. This technology allows users to enjoy a stable VPN connection and minimizes the risk of IP address exposure.

How does Surfshark Everlink work?

Surfshark Everlink is an additional layer of security which helps to recover lost connections. When connected to the VPN, Surfshark user connects not only to the VPN infrastructure, but also to Everlink infrastructure. In case there is a drop of connection, Surfshark Everlink instantly acts as a “self-healing” mechanism and revives user’s connection by reconfiguring the VPN tunnel without having to disconnect and reconnect from the VPN service, protecting the user from potential data exposure.

Surfshark Everlink also ensures that the VPN service for the user remains stable in case of server maintenance repairs.

More than just convenience: protecting users’ privacy

Budvytis emphasizes that Surfshark Everlink isn’t only essential for seamless connectivity, but is also an important new technology for privacy and security.

The Surfshark Everlink technology is enabled by default on WireGuard protocol on all platforms, including iOS, macOS, Windows, Android, and Linux.

Surfshark Everlink was built on a patented technology (patent: US11190491B1, Method and apparatus for maintaining a resilient VPN connection; patent: US20240080302A1, Clustering of Virtual Private Network Servers). Currently holding multiple patents for industry innovation, the company seeks to improve not only on its VPN offering, but also help build a better internet for everyone. Recently, Surfshark launched a free DNS service, offering a more private alternative to default DNS providers.

Researchers reveal what data T-Mobile allegedly leaked in a data sample of 64M records

Posted in Commentary with tags on June 13, 2025 by itnerd

Attackers recently claimed to have breached T-Mobile, America’s second-largest mobile carrier, posting a dataset on a popular data leak forum. The post alleges that 64 million customer records were stolen as recently as June 1, 2025.

The Cybernews research team analyzed the data sample attached to the post on the forum to verify the nature and sensitivity of the leaked information.

The analysis found that the dataset contains a trove of highly sensitive user details:

  • Full names
  • Dates of birth
  • Tax IDs
  • Full addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Email addresses
  • Device IDs
  • Cookie IDs
  • IP addresses

If the data in the leak were new, researchers believe that individuals impacted face serious privacy concerns.

Leaked sample shows old and new data

T-Mobile has experienced multiple data breaches in recent years. The company previously agreed to pay over $15 million in fines for four separate incidents, two of which compromised the data of tens of millions of users.

Moreover, the Cybernews personal data leak checker indicates that at least some of the emails in the data sample were included in previous T-Mobile breaches.

However, certain fields — such as phone numbers — appear to be new, increasing concerns that this may represent a fresh breach. The full scale and authenticity of the 64 million records have yet to be confirmed with 100% accuracy.
