Posted in Commentary with tags on November 7, 2015 by itnerd

A quick update on the folks over at Brewie who are in the midst of creating a home brewing kit. Since the Brewie InDemand campaign started last Wednesday, They’ve already collected more pre-orders than during the entire first campaign and consequently passed $500,000 in total pledges – more than $150,000 were collected within the first 24 hours!

Brewie Is Back With Improvements And A New Indiegogo Campaign

Posted in Commentary with tags on October 23, 2015 by itnerd

Remember, Brewie? I’ve written about their high tech brew kit before. And during the past few months the Brewie team has not only communicated with more than 110 companies to create an efficient network for procurement, manufacturing, recipe creation, packaging and distribution, it has also collected valuable feedback at multiple brewing events in order to optimize Brewie itself. Additionally, a pre – production prototype was exhibited at IFA 2015 in Berlin – the world’s leading trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances.

Some changes that were made since their first Indiegogo campaign ended are:

  •   the possibility to automatically add hops at four times during the brewing process, a feature that makes it possible to use a larger variety of recipes directly from within the Brewie database;
  •   more durable and powerful pumps, for which 28 pumps have been sacrificed;
  •   a faster and more efficient cooling system, which enables faster chilling within 20 minutes;
  •   a safer cover from which one can directly look into the machine without having to open it;
  •   a more integrated community system that now includes easier recipe sharing, a knowledge center for beginners and experts alike and a forum that can be used to exchange ideas, but also to ask for help or technical support;
  •   a new circulation system, which solves the problem of oxidation during the mashing while also separating the beer’s protein from the final wort after boiling;
  •   and finally a new recipe format called ‘.brewie’, which is compatible with the commonly used Beer XML and therefore enables the experienced users to directly brew their existing recipes from Brewer’s Friend and Beer Smith.

But the biggest news is that Brewie is now on Indiegogo’s InDemand service that allows successful campaigns to move into a commercial phase so they can collect more pre-orders and fulfill them.

Besides that news, the Brewie team is currently working on certifications and on the procurement for the first production batch. The delivery of the machines pre-ordered during the first Indiegogo campaign will begin in February 2016, while InDemand pre-orders will start shipping in March 2016.

Brewie reaches $100,000 goal & Unveils New Perks

Posted in Commentary with tags on December 18, 2014 by itnerd

You might recall that I wrote about a Indiegogo project called Brewie which allows you to brew beer at home with the help of your smartphone. The company has announced that they have reached their funding goal on Indiegogo in only 10 days, collecting $100,000 worth of pledges from almost 200 funders. This means that Brewie will become a reality including everyone who pledges before the campaign ends on Jan. 31, 2015.

Now to keep there momentum going the company has announced new perks, such as Brewie Pads that contain all the ingredients you need to brew your own beer, and 5-liter (1.3-gallon) kegs where you can store your brew as it ferments. Also, as soon as their Indiegogo campaign reaches their new stretch goal of $200,000, they will add a new feature to all Brewies that will allow you to add hops at four times in the brewing process rather than only twice.
