Sony has some MAJOR explaining to do.
If you have an original “fat” PS3 (as opposed to the new “slim” version), you might not want to turn it on. According to this posting on the Playstation Blog, a clock-related bug might cause data loss on “fat” PS3 models. The PS3 slim isn’t affected as far as Sony knows, and they hope to have everything up and running in the next day or so. Hmmmm…. Kind of reminds you of that other data loss issue with those Danger/Microsoft Sidekicks a while back. That got ugly in a hurry. Sony better hope their issue doesn’t turn out that way.
So if you were hoping to get some Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gaming tonight, you should hold off on that. Or try using an Xbox 360 instead.
UPDATE: Joystiq is reporting that things seem to be working again. A comment to this story confirms this.
Have A PS3? Your PSN Account May Have Been Hacked
Posted in Commentary with tags Hacked, Playstation, Sony on April 26, 2011 by itnerdFor the last few days, the Playstation network has been down. Now this news appeared on the Playstation blog:
We are currently working to send a similar message to the one below via email to all of our registered account holders regarding a compromise of personal information as a result of an illegal intrusion on our systems. These malicious actions have also had an impact on your ability to enjoy the services provided by PlayStation Network and Qriocity including online gaming and online access to music, movies, sports and TV shows. We have a clear path to have PlayStation Network and Qriocity systems back online, and expect to restore some services within a week.
Oh joy. PSN accounts hacked and personal info exposed. That’s a lawsuit waiting to happen. If you have a PSN account, I’d read their blog post as it has info you really need to know.
In the meantime, I suspect that Xbox sales are about to go up.
