Case Line-up For iPhone X, 8 & 8 Plus By Mujjo Announced

Posted in Commentary with tags on September 18, 2017 by itnerd
Mujjo has redesigned their Leather and Leather Wallet Cases from scratch using their brand new in-mould production process. By fully wrapping the case with their signature premium quality full-grain leather, they’ve made a super-slim profile that accentuates rather than conceals the iPhone X’s beautiful design.

They’ve fully wrapped them with premium quality full-grain leather. With a super-slim profile and clean silhouette following the contours of the device, the result is a well-balanced design that feels inherently right.

+ Signature full-grain leather – The premium quality of their full-grain vegetable tanned leather provides a soft feel and ages beautifully. Enhanced by a meticulous tanning process, this adds character by allowing the natural grain to show through. The leather breaks in with use and acquires its own unique patina – a gradual refinement that will give your case a truly personal character. Each case is manufactured with care and treated with aniline oil to enrich color tones.

+ Every detail considered – The buttons are fully covered in leather, which adds to the sleekness of the overall design. The optimised button profile is specifically designed and tested for responsiveness and ease of use – the result of a production process that they’ve refined meticulously.

+ Protective and effortless – The leather rises 1mm above the edge of the glass, creating a raised bezel that keeps abrasive surfaces away from your screen. The camera opening and mute button feature a leather chamfer that subtly curves inwards. As well as complementing the design’s sleek aesthetic, this also makes it effortless to use the mute button.

+ Satin-like microfiber-lined – The case interiors are lined with the finest Japanese microfiber, a slim, super-strong fabric that is also exceptionally lightweight. With a sophisticated, satin-like finish, this material provides luxurious padded comfort for your iPhone X.

Posted in Commentary with tags on September 18, 2017 by itnerd

Two-time award-winning EdTech company, Knowledgehook, is expanding its development project as it announced its new partnership with the Thames Valley District School Board, the fifth-largest school board in the province through the AdvancingEducation Program delivered by Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE).

As a part of Ontario’s Renewed Mathematics Strategy (RMS), TVDSB has been seeking solutions to address the student achievement gaps which have developed over the last several years. Prior to the start of the last academic year, TVDSB had 36% usage of Knowledgehook across its board. With the announcement of this new partnership, all teachers, principals, and students will have access to the innovative Instructional Guidance System (IGS) for which Knowledgehook was granted an award by Google in a global competition.

Declining math scores in Ontario have demonstrated a need for tools that can help support teachers’ professional development. Leading researchers in education such as Dylan William, Professor Emeritus at University College London, UK, and John Hattie, Director of the Melbourne Education Research Institute at the University of Melbourne, Australia, published best practices for increasing student achievement. Knowledgehook’s IGS is the first technology innovation to facilitate this research into practical application.

At a system level, Knowledgehook’s data is used to organize professional development and professional learning communities for teachers. IGS technology is the only proven way to deliver these important functions in an objective manner.

Knowledgehook is an Educational Technology software that, identifies student learning needs, gaps and misconceptions and provides teachers, principals, math consultants and system leaders with best-practice pedagogical strategy to address these issues. For more information on Knowledgehook please visit www.knowledgehook.com.

Ontario-based tech company Clickback has ranked No. 32 in the “software” category on the Canadian Business and PROFIT’s 29th annual PROFIT 500 and No. 106 overall. The PROFIT 500 is the definitive list of Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies, ranking them by their 5-year revenue growth.

Clickback made the list with a growth rate of 689%, due to the success of its B2B email lead generation solution, Clickback MAIL. Backdoor in CCleaner Infects Windows Users With Malware

Posted in Commentary with tags on September 18, 2017 by itnerd

Avast has advised users of its CCleaner which is an optimization application for Windows to immediately update their software after discovering a backdoor in the tool. Here’s what Forbes had to say:

The affected app, CCleaner, is a maintenance and file clean-up software run by a subsidiary of anti-virus giant Avast. It has 2 billion downloads and claims to be getting 5 million extra a week, making the threat particularly severe, researchers at Cisco Talos warned. Comparing it to the NotPetya ransomware outbreak, which spread after a Ukrainian accounting app was infected, the researchers discovered the threat on September 13 after CCleaner 5.33 caused Talos systems to flag malicious activity.

Further investigation found the CCleaner download server was hosting the backdoored app as far back as September 11. Talos warned in a blog Monday that the affected version was released on August 15, but on September 12 an untainted version 5.34 was released. For weeks then, the malware was spreading inside supposedly-legitimate security software.

The malware would send encrypted information about the infected computer – the name of the computer, installed software and running processes – back to the hackers’ server. The hackers also used what’s known as a domain generation algorithm (DGA); whenever the crooks’ server went down, the DGA could create new domains to receive and send stolen data. Use of DGAs shows some sophistication on the part of the attackers.

Now it’s really embarrassing when an anti-virus company has one of its own products be a vehicle for malware. Clearly someone over at Avast was asleep at the switch. If you’re a Windows user who uses this software, I’d be dumping it right now and following these directions to see if you were infected. Then you should install(if you must) to the latest version which is available for download here.

Feds Launch Insider Trading Probe Focued On Equifax Execs

Posted in Commentary with tags on September 18, 2017 by itnerd

You might recall that between the time that Equifax discovered that they got pwned and when it was announced, several execs at Equifax sold shares. Now the party line from Equifax was “nothing to see here” but apparently the US Department Of Justice thinks there is something to see here as they’ve launched an insider trading probe:

Prosecutors are looking at the stock sales by Equifax chief financial officer John Gamble, president of U.S. information solutions Joseph Loughran and president of workforce solutions Rodolfo Ploder, said two people, who asked not to be named because the probe is confidential.

Having watched some of these investigations play out in the past, by the time the feds knock on your door, you’re likely guilty. Sucks to be these execs. Well…. Actually it doesn’t because this company has let the personal info on millions of people out into the wild and if they did try to profit off of this before the news was public, they should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Period.

Review: 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT Sport Ultimate – Part 1

Posted in Products with tags on September 18, 2017 by itnerd

A very popular segment in the car market is the so called “hot hatch”. In short, it’s a high performance version of a three or five door hatchback. They tend to walk the line of being sporty while being good daily drivers. While there are many players in this space, the company who pretty much is the king of the hill at the moment is Volkswagen with the GTI. But I would submit that their days at the top of the food chain in this space may be numbered based on this entry from Hyundai:

Meet the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT with the Sport Ultimate trim package which looks very European right down to the dual tailpipes and the square “ish” hatchback shape that a lot of European hatchbacks have. Even the tailights have an European look to them. If Hyundai was looking to get the looks of the Elantra GT right from a hot hatch perspective, I’d give them an “A” in that department. Especially because they haven’t made it look like something out of a Fast And Furious Movie, or made it look like something that is more akin to a robot from Mobile Suit Gundam. That means that it is likely to appeal to an audience beyond the boy racer crowd.

I’d like to highlight one thing about the looks of this vehicle:

This vent that’s next to the turn signal/foglamp isn’t there for show. It’s actually functional as it is there to reduce turbulence and to increase stability and fuel economy.

The question that I’ll be answering this week is does the rest of the car match the looks?

My review of the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT is made up of five parts:

  • Exterior
  • Engine, transmission, handling, fuel economy, and driving comfort
  • Interior
  • Technology in the vehicle
  • Wrap up

The next part of this review will cover the engine, transmission and driving comfort. Specifically, I’ll be looking to see if it lives up to this badge on the hatch:

Tune in tomorrow to get the answer to that.
