InsureMyTrip’s Machine Learning Technology Finds The Right Travel Insurance

Posted in Commentary on September 26, 2018 by itnerd

InsureMyTrip, the first and only travel insurance comparison site using machine learning technology to create a personalized experience for travelers, released the latest upgrade to its groundbreaking recommendation engine today.  The newest version now automatically filters thousands of travel insurance plans in order to predict which plans are most appropriate and relevant for those traveling during hurricane season to storm-prone destinations, like the Caribbean.

The technology was first announced by InsureMyTrip CEO Jim Grace to industry leaders during a CES 2018 event. It is the first time predictive models and machine learning techniques are being applied to travel insurance comparison.

In addition to hurricane filtering, this enhanced version also better identifies specific coverages based on the user’s profile. For example, cruisers are typically concerned about missing the ship’s boarding time due to a flight delay or missed connection. The recommendation engine has already “learned” this attribute and will use this type of data to make a more intelligent decision, on behalf of the customer requesting a quote, and offer a travel insurance plan that will also include various missed connection and travel delay benefits.

How Hurricane Coverage Works
Travelers who purchase traditional travel insurance prior to a storm forming may receive reimbursement of pre-paid, non-refundable trip costs if they must cancel a trip due to severe weather-related issues that are covered under the trip cancellation benefit. Here are some examples:

Flights are grounded: Many plans may cover a traveler when common carriers such as airlines or cruise lines cease service due to weather. The cessation of services typically must be for a certain number of consecutive hours, usually 24-48.

The resort is in the path of a hurricane: A few plans will cover a traveler when the traveler’s destination is under a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued hurricane warning within 24-48 hours of the departure date.

Hotel or resort is impacted: Many plans may cover a traveler when a hotel, resort, or vacation rental is devastated and made uninhabitable by a storm.

Home is badly damaged: Many plans offer coverage when the primary home of a traveler sustains destructive storm damage that renders the home uninhabitable.

It’s simple. InsureMyTrip finds you the right travel insurance plan, every time. InsureMyTrip is the authority on travel insurance. They are committed to empowering travelers to make the best possible insurance decisions by leveraging their technology, data intelligence, and expertise.

A Brand New Extortion Phishing Scam Is Making The Rounds….. Here’s How Not To Become A Victim

Posted in Commentary with tags on September 26, 2018 by itnerd

It now appears that there’s a brand new extortion phishing scam that’s out in the wild. like the last two that I told you about, this one plays on the fact that you might have surfed for porn and that you might of done something else related to that. In other words, it is playing on your guilt. Here’s the text of the latest scam email:

Hello!
I’m a member of an international hacker group.

As you could probably have guessed, your account [Email Redacted] was hacked, I sent message you from it.

Now I have access to you accounts! You still do not believe it?
So, this is your password: [Password Redacted] , right?

Within a period from July 5, 2018 to September 21, 2018, you were infected by the virus we’ve created, through an adult website you’ve visited.
So far, we have access to your messages, social media accounts, and messengers.
Moreover, we’ve gotten full damps of these data.

We are aware of your little and big secrets…yeah, you do have them. We saw and recorded your doings on porn websites. Your tastes are so weird, you know..

But the key thing is that sometimes we recorded you with your webcam, syncing the recordings with what you watched!
I think you are not interested show this video to your friends, relatives, and your intimate one…

Transfer $700 to our Bitcoin wallet: [Bitcoin Wallet Redacted]
I guarantee that after that, we’ll erase all your “data” 😀

A timer will start once you read this message. You have 48 hours to pay the above-mentioned amount.

Your data will be erased once the money are transferred.
If they are not, all your messages and videos recorded will be automatically sent to all your contacts found on your devices at the moment of infection.

You should always think about your security. We hope this case will teach you to keep secrets.
Take care of yourself.

Now in this case, the so called hacker has the password of the user. That’s to add some perceived legitimacy to the email. But chances are they don’t know anything more than that. Thus the first thing that you should do if you get one of these emails is to change the password to any email or online service that is associated with that email. And if you’re wondering how they got your email and password, it was likely part of a data breach. You can find out which one by going to haveibeenpwned.com and typing in your email address. It will likely come back with the fact that you’ve been part of a data breach that includes your email address and password.

Now under no circumstances should you pay up. The main reasons are that not only does it make the scumbags behind this scam want to keep doing it, but because many BitCoin exchanges or ATMs do not require you to verify your identity. Thus there’s no way for the scammer to tie you to the money that they could get from you. Which means that they have no way to delete the data that they allegedly collected if you pay them. Which means that they’re lying about having data on you. Thus never pay these scumbags a single cent.

Next up is the purported use of the webcam to record the victim. It is possible to remotely take over a webcam in a laptop. If you’re the least bit paranoid about that, cover yours with tape. Or you can disable it entirely. Ditto for the microphone as well.

Finally, if you’re the least bit concerned about whether your system is compromised, consult a computer professional and have them check things over. It would also be a good idea to make sure your anti-virus is up to date and fully functioning as well.

The bottom line is this. These scumbags want you to be the 1% of people who fall for something like this because they make lots of money off that 1%. Don’t be a victim. Don’t respond. Don’t pay them. Just ignore them and make sure that whatever password that they have isn’t in use by any of your online accounts. They are scumbags and don’t deserve your attention or more importantly your money.

Why The Apple Watch Is Now A Game Changer For Apple

Posted in Commentary with tags on September 26, 2018 by itnerd

I truly believe that the Apple Watch Series 4 is a game changer for Apple as it is a fully baked smartwatch can brings a number of unique features that basically make every other smartwatch irrelevant. How so you ask? Well, it can quite literally save your life. Here’s how:

  • The Apple Watch now detects fast and slow heart rates. Both of with are highly dangerous and if you got an alert like this, you should seek medical attention.
  • The ECG feature that is yet to roll out on Series 4 Apple Watches can detect conditions like Afib which is also highly dangerous and requires medical attention.
  • One feature that is unique to the Series 4 Apple Watch is fall detection. It’s turned on by default for those who are 65 or over. But you might consider turning it on regardless as it will alert emergency services along with the contacts that you define if you’ve fallen and cannot respond because you’re unconscious or the like.

And it does all of this in a package that looks good and can also help you get into shape because Apple has beefed up the fitness features as well. Being fit can also save your life by the way. Now if you think this is all over the top, consider this. The previous generations of the Apple Watch were already saving lives. Thus all these new features take that proven functionality to the next level.

In short it makes the Apple Watch a product that several orders of magnitude above the competition who don’t offer this feature set, and likely won’t for years. Assuming that they can catch up at all. That’s also going to give Apple the ability to simply build on this lead that they’ve gained by adding new features to further assist you in staying healthy. Which means that the possibility exists that the competition may not be able to catch them. All of this is game changing for Apple because they now have something in a niche that nobody can match. Which means that they have a brand new revenue source the will add to the billions that they have to the bank. And at the same time, they are providing a device that can benefit millions. That’s a win-win in my book.
