Introducing the new LinkedIn Pages

LinkedIn has announced LinkedIn Pages – the next generation of LinkedIn Company Pages and Career Pages, to help empower companies to build active communities. LinkedIn also announced new integrations with 3rd party partners including Hootsuite, which enables admins to receive notifications when there is activity on their LinkedIn Pages and Crunchbase, which provides funding insights and key investors on LinkedIn Pages.

Pages have been rebuilt from the ground up to make it easier for brands, institutions and organizations, from small businesses to large enterprises, to foster constructive conversations with LinkedIn’s community of more than 590 million members.

Key new features to LinkedIn Pages include:

  • Join the Conversations that Matter: Community managers, also known as admins, can now post updates and respond to comments, on the go from the LinkedIn mobile app for iOS and Android. Admins can also associate their Page with hashtags, so they can listen in and respond to conversations happening about their brand or relevant topics on LinkedIn.
  • Know and Grow your Audience: We’ve built Content Suggestions, a new feature that surfaces the topics and content trending with their target audience on LinkedIn. With these insights, admins can now curate and create content that their audiences are sure to engage with.
  • Engage your People: LinkedIn introduces a suite of tools to help organizations engage their people by introducing the ability to discover and reshare their employees’ public LinkedIn posts from their Page. Organizations can also respond to and re-share any posts on LinkedIn where a company’s Page is mentioned, like customer testimonials and product reviews.
  • Enhance your Page with Career Pages: The new Career Pages gives companies and organizations a way to engage potential candidates with a Life tab and a Jobs tab that provide a customized look into an organization, culture, and jobs.

Introducing Reminders & Unsubscribe Features In Yahoo Mail

There are some new features for Yahoo Mail – Reminders and Unsubscribe.

  • Reminders: Users can now set reminders within emails to prioritize what matters the most to them. Real life example: just opened an email about the utility bill that’s due soon? Set a reminder to pay it in five days, and a notification will pop up then.
  • Unsubscribe: Implemented as an easy-to-find button when opening a message, the Unsubscribe feature lets users easily stop receiving emails without ever having to leave their Yahoo Mail inboxes.

McAfee Survey Highlights Risky Behaviour Of Online Holiday Shoppers

Findings from a new survey released by McAfee today show more than half of online holiday shoppers are willing to risk purchasing from potentially fake websites if it will save them money. Called Holiday Stresses, the survey revealed that online shoppers can be more careless while shopping online during the holiday shopping season.

Some of the survey’s other key findings included:

  • 53 per cent of online shoppers said the stress of the holiday season caused them to behave carelessly online
  • 31 per cent clicked on links in suspicious emails in a search for better deals
  • 22 per cent said they engaged in risky online behavior, such as using public Wi-Fi access for their shopping
  • 56 per cent are willing to use an unfamiliar site, if it allows them to save money

McAfee offered several tips for consumers who want to shop more safely online:

  • Connect with caution. Using public Wi-Fi might seem like a good idea in the moment, but if consumers are not careful, they could be unknowingly exposing their personal information or credit card details to cybercriminals who are snooping on the network. If public Wi-Fi must be used to conduct transactions, use a virtual private network (VPN) to help ensure a secure connection.
  • Think before you click. One of the easiest ways for a cybercriminal to target victims is by using phishing emails disguised as holiday savings or shipping notification, to lure consumers into clicking links that could lead to malware, or a phony website designed to steal personal information. Instead of clicking on a link in an email, it is always best to check directly with the source to verify an offer or shipment.
  • Browse with security protection. Use comprehensive security protection, like McAfee Total Protection, which can help protect devices against malware, phishing attacks and other threats. It includes McAfee WebAdvisorwhich can help identify malicious websites.
  • Use a tool to help protect your personal information. A solution like McAfee Identity Theft Protection, takes a proactive approach to help protect identities with personal and financial monitoring and recovery tools to help keep identities personal and secure.

 

Martello Appoints Mike Galvin and Jennifer Camelon to its Board of Directors

Martello Technologies Group Inc. announced today the appointments of Mike Galvin and Jennifer Camelon to its board of directors. Mr. Galvin is a telecommunications industry leader with more than 32 years’ experience in BT PLC, who has been responsible for the design, deployment and management of some of the largest broadband networks in the UK. Ms. Camelon is a technology industry finance and business executive with experience leading global transformation and integration initiatives for organizations such as QNX and the Royal Canadian Mint. All current Directors remain on Martello’s Board. These appointments bolster Martello’s leadership team following the Company’s acquisition of Savision, as Martello continues to execute on its ‘build and buy’ growth strategy.

Mr. Galvin has been responsible for the design, deployment and management of some of the largest broadband networks in the UK. As Managing Director in BT PLC, Mr. Galvin led key national initiatives including the rollout of BT’s fibre network, and the nationwide delivery of high-speed internet for the UK. Mr. Galvin has led BT’s internationally respected research division. A telecommunication engineer and specialist in broadband networks he has 32 years of industry experience, working at board level, with governments and in leadership positions in technology, innovation and research. Mr. Galvin brings extensive technology program leadership experience and delivery of large infrastructure projects in both the public and private sectors.

Currently the interim president and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint, Ms. Camelon is a seasoned finance and business leader. Previously Chief Financial Officer of QNX Software systems, Ms. Camelon also led the IT, operations and quality functions. Ms. Camelon was the primary corporate representative to QNX’s parent companies including Research in Motion. In addition to her responsibilities at QNX, she regularly undertook special projects and additional responsibilities in support of BlackBerry’s transformation efforts. Prior to QNX, Ms. Camelon worked for Delta Hotels and Resorts as well as Price Waterhouse in both Toronto and Ottawa. Ms. Camelon is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from Queen’s University. In 2005 the Ottawa Business Journal recognized Ms. Camelon as one of the Top 40 under 40.

Martello has a positive track record in acquisition activity. On November 2, the company announced the completion of its acquisition of Savision, after having acquired SD-WAN player Elfiq Networks in December 2017 and Netvitesse in 2014. The Company’s solutions have been recognized by the industry. In September, Martello received a Frost & Sullivan Leadership Award for NPM (Network Performance Management) and ranked as Ottawa’s Fastest Growing Company, at No. 28 on the Growth 500 list of Canada’s Fastest Growing Companies. The Company’s debut on the TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV) followed the closure of an oversubscribed $7.5 million private placement in June 2018.

Some Apple Users Locked Out Of Their iCloud Accounts

Reports have been coming in over the last few hours of Apple users finding that they are locked out of their iCloud accounts. The only way back in is to do a password reset. Now Apple will lock accounts when someone attempts to access an ID by entering their incorrect password too many times. So it is possible that what might be going on is some sort of brute force attack on iCloud accounts on a scale not previously seen. Or Apple could be having some sort of technical issue. At this point the cause isn’t clear as Apple isn’t really commenting as is typical for them.

How do you know if you are affected? iOS will present an alert in settings that says some Apple ID settings must be updated. Also, you may lose access to services like iMessage, iCloud and Apple Music if you do not verify your identity. If you find that your account is locked, you should follow the instructions here to unlock it. Also, you might want to strongly consider using two factor verification for your iCloud account whether you are affected or not.

How many users are affected? A lot if you go by social media. But an exact number is hard to come by. We’ll have to wait and see if there’s any clarity on that front via a comment from Apple or from some other source.

ASUS Scores Big In European Consumer Electronics Community Awards

ASUS won the most awards in three major 2018 European consumer electronics community surveys, acknowledging the company as a preferred PC component, peripherals, laptop, and gaming PC brand throughout the continent. Readers from the European Hardware Association, Hardware.Info and KitGuru communities all voted, and ASUS products came out on top in the surveys conducted by each group, winning a total of 23 awards.

Comprised of nine of the largest independent technology news and reviews websites across Europe, the European Hardware Association (EHA) Community Awards represents the best of the best in the technology sector in the region. In the 2018 survey, ASUS received more awards from the EHA community than any other company: more than 1.3 million individual votes from more than 38,000 technology users resulted in seven awards across the motherboard, graphics card, monitor, router, mini PC, laptop, and gaming PC categories.

Hardware.Info and KitGuru, two prominent tech media organizations in Europe, also released their annual survey. More than 12,500 Hardware.Info readers voiced their opinions, and credited ASUS with the most awards across 10 product categories, including motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, routers, headsets, laptops, gaming laptops, gaming desktop PC, 2-in-1 PCs, and mini PCs.
